Kathleen Sullivan MA, BSc, DipCMI, DipION
Qualified, accredited life coach…with a great sense of humans
Qualifications & professional interests:
I trained with Coaching & Mentoring International (UK-accredited diploma) and was awarded a distinction for my studies. I have an MA in Education and International Development: Health Promotion (University of London) and BSc in Business Studies, International Affairs and German (USA). I am a founding member of the UK Healthcare Coaching Group – a consortium of coaches working with health and social services for patient benefit. Together with a team of researchers in public health, I developed a study to assess the impact of coaching on patients with diabetes. We expect our findings to suggest that coaching can lead to lifestyle and behavioural changes that result in improved health.
Professional background:
I moved into coaching from a background in international training and project management in the health field. At Imperial College Faculty of Medicine I worked on an HIV knowledge programme in Russia. Over a period of 13 years I made over 40 trips to the former Soviet Union where I ran focus groups, workshops and seminars for healthcare professionals. I developed my people skills from a variety of situations: outreach work with vulnerable young people on the streets of Russia; equally challenging meetings with Ministers of Health in Moscow; and training doctors on an oil field in Kazakhstan.
I teach participatory and coaching approaches in public health to MSc students - previously at Imperial College and more recently at the University of East London.
Personal background:
I grew up in the USA, worked for Reuters News Agency in Germany, and then relocated to London which has been my home for nearly 20 years. Prior to my work in international health care I practised as a Nutrition Consultant in North London. I live with my partner, Don, in Central London.
